My first job out of grad school was working as a production coordinator in the on-air graphics dept at USA Network. I have an MFA in creative writing, so obviously writing is where I wanted to be when it came to television. Thankfully, USA fostered a very “welcoming” environment for creative people who wanted to contribute to the network regardless of their title. I wrote most of the zingers in this spot and was able for the first time to see my own writing on TV. It was fantastic.
Patrick Trettenero was the executive producer on this project and who I credit for giving me my first big on-air break. Thanks to him and the staff lead by Jason Holzman, I was given the chance to do what I always dreamed: write for TV. And it’s what I still do to this day.
